Oh yeah...well I am going to upgrade to a Dual Xeon set up with 24 cores, 48 GBs of memory, and four not three but four GTX 580s!
But seriously...my old computer with a Core 2 Duo e8400 and a 9800 GTX would of most likely ran Diablo 3 at max video settings.
without severe fps drop and lag? lol in your dream.
people seriously need to get some specs check first.|||Quote:

What are you basing that off of? If you are going to say Starcraft 2 I personally think that it is a bad game to compare with Diablo 3 graphics wise. I based my statement off of the game Heroes of Newerth which I would say has similar graphics. We won't truly know what kind of hardware we need to play the game at max video settings until people play the beta.
Here's a screenshot of Heroes of Newerth. (With my Core 2 Duo e8400 and 9800 GTX I played it at max settings at 1920x1200.)

Not sure what you are talking about...if you meant I should of asked someone what to get before I bought that, I can tell you that I built that computer before Diablo 3 was even announced and since then I have built a new computer which I know will have no problem playing Diablo 3. Also, I don't need to ask people what hardware to get. I would call my self an enthusiast.|||Quote:

yes, an e8400 and a 9800 GTX will most likely run Diablo 3 at or near max video settings (depending of course on your resolution)
the graphics for D3 are not cartoony, but they are definitely not graphically intensive either, they aren't going to require that much graphic power
Blizz is doing their best to make this a multiplayer experience, and that means cutting back on all the graphics,
they really do want 4 people playing this at the same time, so they are not going to make it graphically intensive
here's the latest graphics card comparison chart from Tom's Guide
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ce,2997-7.html
they rate the 9800 GTX one tier below the Radeon HD 5770 (Radeon HD 6770), saying the 5770 gives great 1920x1200 performance in most games
a difference of one tier isn't very much, so the 9800 GTX will give similar performance
is the 9800 GTX a card a "real gamer" would settle for ?
no
but blizzard is not aiming for "real gamers"
time and time again they have shown they are going for a more casual market|||Well put James.

no
Back in 2008 when it was released it was. It was the High-end GPU of the 9 series aside from the GX2 and the refresh GTX+. In today's market though, no.
Also like I said before I no longer use my e8400 and 9800 GTX.|||Quote:
I personally went from a 22 to a 24....and now I can comfortably say that I don't see myself getting anything any bigger.
I thought that until I experience a friends Dell U2711 .. a 27inch IPS beast ..
... that monitor is .. amazing. Next time it is on sale here .. I am getting one.|||Quote:

I have 2 of em and I love em both (not on the same computers but in possession) My only gripe was I wish I had gone with the 30" since I could have definitely used the realestate. My other gripe is that it made a computer that used too beast all games suddenly seem sluggish with frame rates.
Some things people forget is
1920x1080 is around 2 million pixels
1920x1200 is around 2.3 million pixels
2560x1440 is around 3.6 million pixels
2560x1600 is around 4 million pixels
That is a HUGE jump for a video card to handle. Waiting on the Kepler nvidia 600series next year so I can have a single card solution.|||Quote:

Well, i mainly compare d3 to starcraft 2 just because it's similar graphic wise and system requirement. you have to encounter that once you're in a 4 players where stuffs are flashing exploding everywhere it's gonna be tough to maintain good fps. i would have severe fps drop in starcraft 2 multiplayers when too much stuffs going under high-ultra setting, and i know that because i had that setup before.
Of course ever since i upgraded to i5 2500k and gtx 460, i maintains 60 fps smoothness even in 4v4 under ultra. 460 is not even dat much more expensive than 9800 gtx so why not just get it. 460 is the minimum bar today for gamers.|||My sad old computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Diablo 3. Any particular reasons you went for the old i7 950 instead of the 2600K ? I don't believe you were short on cash if you bought two 580s.
