That quote could be interpreted in the complete opposite fashion and doesn't really apply here....
How so? You, the player, are the competitor in the quote.|||Quote:
The competitor to be feared is one who never bothers about you at all, but goes on making his own business better all the time.
Don't stress about what other players are doing or what Chinese farmers are doing. Just play the game the way you want to play it and have fun.
Bravo... exactly...|||Quote:

“The competitor to be feared is one who never bothers about you at all, but goes on making his own business better all the time.”
The competitor (customers? myself?) do bother me all the time, with constant requests for dumbed down games, filling servers of various games with complete inability to play competitively, and of course, blind praise of EZ-mode options.
If you read it as you saying it in reference to me, what do you fear about me? Are you afraid that I want a competitive/pure game?
How is someone that isn't bothering you about their complaints "making his own business better" ? If "real" gamers (in my view, a gamer is someone who ACTUALLY PLAYS THE GAME instead of buying their way through it) didn't complain about the dumbing down or simplification or legitimized cheating or shortcutting or whatever you want to call it, games we like would cease to exist even quicker.
-Ubisoft's draconian DRM would still be in effect if it weren't for people like me actually making a stink about it.
-"Horse armor" DLC would be more prevalent than it is today (this is a losing battle sadly)
-Pay2Win would be a mainstay in most major titles (also a losing battle it seems)
So unless I'm interpreting it wrong (i've tried to 'read' it in several different ways/angles), the quote does not fit in anyway whatsoever.
So take your accounting 201 knowledge and keep it in accounting 201, or that silly blog of yours.|||Quote:

No need to resort to personal attacks, as clearly we are interpreting the quote differently. I, from the perspective of players in-game, and you from players during the development process. I appreciate that you view yourself as a "champion of real gaming" and understand that any major changes to franchises you play or to the gaming industry as a whole will be met with scorn and derision.
All the quote was meant to represent was my belief that gamers should play games as they want to play them, and not be limited by the mindset that what other players are doing in their version of the game can make mine any less fun. The only thing draconian here is your mindset, and the only thing I fear for you (not from you) is that you will not be able to adapt in time to enjoy what promises to be a truly wonderful game.|||Quote:

This is only true for games where social elements do not factor in. But Diablo has a major social component - trading is seen as a major part of the Diablo game so what others do can absolutely impact others in the trading game.|||Quote:

That niche can still exist for those gamers. If enough others are likeminded, a community will spring up around it and they can maintain that aspect of the game for themselves. That's a great point you have.|||Quote:

Certainly! But Blizz's decisions have enormous impact on what kinds of communities ultimately thrive and which ultimately wither.|||Quote:

The quote does not make this correlation at all.
And while you may think I am "attacking" you, I feel like you're posting rhetoric just to have more places to spam your website, which is full of half-truths and a thinly veiled advertisement for whatever you intend on peddling in the near future related to the game, or simply to get page visits.

That's true of anything, and as a gamer you either have to adapt to the game or make the decision to not purchase it.

I guess we just have to agree to disagree. If you feel like I'm spamming feel free to report my posts, though I've been in contact with the admins here and they don't feel the same as you do. If you have problems with the content on my site, I'd love to hear your feedback there or here and appreciate any criticism.
I try to post informed and thoughtful comments that help generate discussion in this community, which is the point of a forum. I'm not peddling anything and I can't see why you post on a forum dedicated to a game you hate so much.
