[:1]Are Diablo 3 maps generated like they were in D2? Or are they static, normal maps that everybody else has |||According to the few people I know from Blizz land. They have a selection of about 30-40 maps per zone that are randomly chosen everytime you start.
I guess space was a real issue. The completely random generator was producing something like 30k variations and it just wasn't feasible to leave it as is. So yes it's random, but from a pre-determined set. Sort of like Phantasy Star Online for those that played it.|||hey thats good enough for me, thanks for the info!|||Actually, the map are no longer as D2 maps.
Outdoor maps are not random. Indoor maps are still random.
They explained that outdoor maps looked too "square" if they were random whereas indoor maps, being made of rooms, galleries... were easier to make randomly.
Besides that, there are now random events, random mini-dungeons... that will appear in indoor or outdoor areas.|||I'm super excited about random mini-dungeons.|||Random dungeon generation will work by joining together different rooms with fixed layouts and then the game will fill them up with randomly placed monsters, breakables, chests and whatnot. This video from WWI 2008 shows quite a few randomly generated layouts as an example:

As for the outside areas, their layouts will be completely fixed, but monsters, chest and the other stuff will still be randomized. Also, ther will be random events (called adventures) scattered throughout the world and they will change with every playthrough. If I remember correctly from gameplay reports these adventures include randomly placed dungeon entrances as well. Here’s Blizzard's presentation of this system:

D2 also generated random maps by joining rooms together (at least I thinks it did), but since the number of rooms were limited there were only a fixed number of variations possible. In a way, the game indeed choose from a huge number of possible layouts.|||I think you said would not happen.|||Outdoor maps are also semi-generated..at least that was information from Blizzcon 2009
So while it's true that most landmarks and outdoor zones are fixed..there are places where can some additional outdoors rooms be generated..so basically some passage or short canyon and there could be dead-end or another smaller outdoor zone..
Bue yea..this info is 2 years old.
